Mark your Calendars: Monster March 2022

Mark your calendars, our annual fundraising event is fast approaching and bigger and better than ever! We have exciting, family-friendly activities heading your way this October!

This year’s Monster March features our new month-long Monster Scavenger Hunt, our annual 3km March, Local Vendor Market and the unveiling of the Youth Legacy Mural in the beautiful community of Currie! The Monster March aims to bring families, community members and partners together to roam our city, support local businesses and give back to children and families in need. Together, we hope to double our last year’s goal and raise $100,000 for the Children’s Cottage Society! Read on to learn more about the different elements of this year’s Monster March, but first, let’s take a quick recap of 2021!

Monster March 2021 Recap

We had so much fun at last year’s monster march raising over $50,000 for the Children’s Cottage Society! From our community partnerships, our limited edition monster merch, coupon book and more monstrous activities our little ones were engaged and excited to take part in our favourite fundraiser of the year!

This year we have retired our coupon book and brought to life our NEW month-long scavenger hunt encouraging families to find this year's Monster's hiding around the beautiful Currie neighbourhood, for a chance to win 1-year of free childcare at any centre throughout the city and surrounding areas

Check out the different ways to participate in this year’s Monster March!

Monster Scavenger Hunt: October 1 - 27, 2022

For the month of October, register, raise funds and explore the community of Currie in search of 15 Monsters for a chance to win 1-year of free childcare at any centre throughout the city and surrounding areas! Hiding throughout local business and amenities, snap a photo with all 15 monsters and submit your most monstrous pictures to our Monster March phone line. One entry per family. Each entry will grant participants into a draw. Three winners will be chosen and announced at the Monster Market on October 29, 2022. Selected winners must be present to claim their prize. Inspired by our youth across YYC, and brought to life by Katie Green, 100% of each item sold will go directly towards helping children and families in need. Coming Soon!

Youth Legacy Mural: October 29, 2022

WilderFutures is partnering with award-winning local artist, Katie Green, to bring the characters of the Monster March to life! Inspired by children's monster submissions throughout YYC, Katie applied her signature watercolour style to the monster characters of this year’s campaign. In collaboration with our Calgary youth, Katie will also create a Youth Legacy Mural set to unveil on October 29, on the facade of Wee Wild Ones' upcoming Currie location. By involving our youth to create, reflect and make meaning behind the creatures of the mural, we hope to support and inspire our next generation to use creative practice as a way to understand and express their feelings and emotions, and openly promote mental health and wellbeing, leaving a legacy of our youth behind.

Please note that the Mural is separate from the fundraiser. Thus, no funds from the Monster March will go towards the making of the Mural.

This October, we have so many new and exciting activities for you and your family to enjoy. Together we hope to raise $100,000 for the Children’s Cottage Society’s Caring Together Capital Campaign!

Register Now to participate in the Monster Scavenger Hunt, 3K March + Market and collect pledges on your personal fundraising page. All registration funds goes towards our donation goal in support of children and families in need.
